Birds of same feathers flock together, not always true ;-) Some times some birds attract towards bright feathers too. A few incidents which happened in my current and previous corporate, as in schools and colleges where there would be a gang of friends and there similarities would be like a group from the same location or a group from the same sports team/club or a group of same field, and it is very rare to see a group of same religion or a caste or a race or a language forming a gang of friends, probably it is because of isolation or a threat. However it is not the case in corporate here mostly the gangs (Camping) are formed based on the caste or race or language, probably it is a cycle which was once omitted or neglected taking its priority on the other turn.
I have worked under several managers, who are atrabilious except for group of people, and these exceptions have the same feather of him/her, the feathers can be of any type Language, Caste or Religion, they flock together. The managers who are roborant towards their iconic group, thinking that there are motivating or giving there piece of pride definitely not, anyways, they are actually assassinating the team spirit, and I have witnessed many such cases. The balbriggan actions of these flocks are credited in a florid ways, leaving the sheer perseverance of others unnoticed and smuggled to distinct era.
There are other types of managers who attract towards bright feathers, and it is true that Cinderella has her magic spell on the prince. And this modern Cinderella takes the prince for a jolly ride, extracts the maximum benefit and grabs her shoe from him to miss it again, and the best part is the Prince is back in search of another shoe, and he finds it soon. There are Cinderella’s whose appraisals (not to be mistaken with the salary) are beyond there performance, whose responsibilities are beyond there capabilities, are just because she is under the managers umbrella. The yeoman’s services performed by the people outside the umbrella are left unnoticed.
I also need to talk about the mangers that who are unbiased with any such gangs or categories in the team, I worked under such esteemed personalities as well, I can very much visualize the bond and their efforts to build the team, one such manager was John Ebenezer, I worked under him for almost 2 ½ years, I had no complaint on him whatsoever, my roles and responsibilities and appraisals are completely taken care by him and I had full flexibility to concentrate on my duties. He used to conduct a team outing once in every two months at least, which helped a lot to understand my team and eliminate any kind of sour things with other team members. After him the other person who flashes in my mind at this point is Vivian Abraham, I worked under his supervision for almost less than2 yrs. I wonder when this man sleeps, will he sleep? He is the one who taught me to getting into details, his meticulous work deserves what he is now, and other mangers who follow the list are Ravi Kuppusamy I worked with him for less a year, a man of dedication and versatility, thou he is physically challenged person, he challenges any ailments in the project. I admire his toughness and learning ability. There he come’s Ravi Viswanathan, its unfortunate that I was not able to work under him for a longtime, during my tenure under his dynasty was adorable just like a family with some if’s and buts, I haven’t explored him much, but a personality with whom every one likes to work with. Rajeev Anand down to earth person, knows how to turn the negatives to positives, he is a man with golden arm, and platinum vision. A man who leaped the corporate ladder on his ability and dedication at the earliest, it definitely adds a feather in his cap.
Camping definitely builds superstars, rather I would say projects superstars, but not certainly Teams, it is universal truth that “Team Work, Works”, and a single tree cannot form a garden, even if the tree bears more fruits then a garden.
